REX Guide Lines to dimensions of Live Animal Containers in relation to size of animal(s), within which they are to be transported (an example for a dog):
MEASURE ------------------------- Measure from the paws to the top of the ears. Add minimum 8cm and you have the height of the crate.
Example: Labrador paws to top of ears = 68cm add + 8 = 76, the container you will select is the 102x69x76cm
NOTICE -------------------------
- snub nose dogs, such as boxers, pugs, bulldogs and Pekinese, you need to add minimum 12cm above the ears or head.
- make sure the container does not have butterfly screws, only certain containers are certified.
IATA REQUIREMENTS ------------------------- The container shall be large enough to permit the animal to stand in a natural position, turn around and lie down (see the proportional dimensions specified in the illustration).
For transportation of more than one animal in the same container, the dimensions should relate to the largest animal.
For transportation of 2 animals in the same container, the width of the container should be calculated as 3 x C, for 3 animals in the same container the calculation is 4 x C.
The guide lines mentioned above are from the IATA Live Animal Regulations book. |
